Colin Yong

Colin graduated with a BA (merit) Economics from NUS in 2000, and it was also during his University years that he began his career in music.

As a performer, this session bass/flutes/Dizi player has managed to beg, bully and brow-beat his way into numerous International Music / Jazz Festivals in cities like Toronto, Chicago, New York, Berlin, Cape Town, Meixico City, and in countries around the region like China, Japan, India, and South East Asian countries in his 20 Year Career. Artistes worked with include Jeremy Monteiro, Ernie Watts, Eldee Young, Eugene Pao, Jacintha Abisheganaden. 

On the pop end of the spectrum, Colin, was on Kit Chan's (陈洁仪) "Spellbound", “A Time For Everything” concert’s Singapore and Hong Kong, and all other concerts till date, and recorded all bass parts and flute part in Her latest live-sessions album “A Time For Everything”, Wallace Chung's (钟汉良) "Sing for Life" Shanghai Concert, TF boyz “The Fever” (2019) Shenzhen, Su Rei 苏芮 Genting Highlands Concert (1999). Other Asian artistes he worked with, both in studio recording as well as Live Concerts include, Chyi Yu 齊豫, Wan Fang 万芳, Jam Xiao 萧敬腾, Zhou Shen 周深, Mavis Hee 许美静, Joanna Dong 董姿彦, 向洋Nathan Hartono, Della 丁当, Roy Li 黎沸揮, Maria Cordero 肥媽瑪俐亞, 陳潔靈Elisa Chan. 

Singapore productions of Broadway musicals that he has worked on include Little Shop of Horrors, Cabaret!,  Tick Tick Boom, Sondheim’s Into The Woods, La Cage Aux Foiles, Last Five Years.
 
A homeboy at heart, local musical theatre credits include W!LD RICE’s Cinderel-LAH! (2003 and 2010) and most of their year-end Pantomimes, latest one being Monkey Goes West (2017), Dream Academy's Dim Sum Dollies (2004 – 2008), Broadway Beng (2007, 2008, 2013, 2016), Sing Dollar (2009), Theatre Practice’s If there were seasons… 2006, 2009, 2014) Toy Factory’s 881-The Musical (2011) and Glass Anatomy (2013, 2014 shanghai). 

Colin has also produced, composed, arranged and scored extensively for a variety of projects, with over 50 commissioned pieces published to date. Most notable are an original composition “Aroh” featured in Ms Marvel series on Disney +, Spring Euphoria used by commercial one of the commercial campaigns of Giant Supermarket, and one of WSG’s online commercial.

On the Academic front, He has Completed his ABRSM piano and flute grade 8 practical, 2 grade 8 theory syllabus, Rockschool bass teaching diploma, Trinity Piano Performance Certificate, RSM Bass grade 8 Electric Bass practical and Pop Theory. He has over 20 years of private instruction as well as classroom lessons in composing, harmony, electronic music production, Electric Bass, Piano and Flute, and was a mentor for Singapore Street Festival.
