In his 28 years of professional experience, he has played alongside some of Hong Kong's most notable artistes in live concerts like Sandy Lam, Aaron Kwok, Tony Leung, Chyi Yu, Hacken Lee and even Singapore's own Ho Yeow Sun, Dick Lee, Eric Moo, and Jacintha Abisheganathan to name a few.
He is the saxophone section leader in the Singapore Jazz Orchestra and has been with them for the past 8 years and is instrumental in raising the overall standards of the saxophone section in this orchestra. He has performed extensively both with the orchestra and other smaller groups within the orchestra.
Boon Chye also plays in "dFused", a 7-piece smooth jazz group that brings a combination of contemporary and mainstream jazz alive with its sleek melodies, harmony and improvisation. "dFused" is into its 5th year now, having played in public concerts and wowing audiences with both young and old.
He was also the lead saxophonist with Singapore's favourite pop/rock group "Jive Talking", having played full-time with them for 14 years before leaving and venturing out as a freelance live and studio recording musician.
His studio recording work includes both pop and jazz and has recorded with artistes such as Sandy Lam, Tracy Huang, Fong Fei Fei, Stefanie Sun, Ho Yeow Sun, Jacky Cheung, Wen Zhang, Stella Chang, Eric Moo etc.
He has been the endorser of Yamaha Saxophone since February 2011 and was appointed Yamaha Wind Artiste in 2005. His earlier music career has seen him as a saxophone instructor of SAF Band and Singapore Police Band, a part-time saxophonist with SSO and a conductor of Ngee Ann Band.
